Viscose is pleased to be supporting The Maclean Foundation with a donation of natural wood bartop closures for its next charity whisky release.

The Maclean Foundation was founded by brothers Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan Maclean, following their 2020 row across the Atlantic Ocean, which raised more than £200,000 for charity. What began as an extraordinary fundraising challenge has since developed into a lasting charitable foundation, focused on creating positive change through the delivery of clean water projects.

The Foundation was formally established in April 2022, and by January 2023 its first boreholes were underway in Madagascar, delivered in partnership with Feedback Madagascar, a charity that has worked in the country for more than 30 years. Its mission is simple but powerful: to help provide clean water to communities that need it most.

In 2025, the Maclean brothers took on their biggest challenge yet, rowing across the Pacific Ocean. The crossing took almost 140 days and raised more than £1 million for The Maclean Foundation. These funds will support Feedback Madagascar’s Beyond Water programme, which combines clean water access with tree planting, watershed protection, education and health initiatives. The programme recognises the close connection between clean water, communities and the environment.

Whisky also plays an important part in the Foundation’s fundraising. Through a series of limited-edition charity whisky releases, distilleries donate a cask of single malt, Charlie Maclean, the Maclean brothers’ father, selects the whisky, and each release is bottled and distributed by Royal Mile Whiskies. Every bottle sold helps provide at least one person with clean water for life. Previous releases have included partnerships with respected distilleries such as Glen Scotia, Ardnamurchan, Isle of Raasay and Auchroisk.

To support the Foundation’s next whisky launch, Viscose has donated a box of natural wood bartop closures. The closures will be used as part of the packaging for the upcoming whisky release, helping to give the bottles a high quality, natural finish while contributing to a project with a meaningful purpose behind it.

We’re proud to support The Maclean Foundation’s next release and support its mission to provide clean water for communities in Madagascar.
